This is what started it all back in 2008….
The TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL FISHING SERIES is not just the only school based, team oriented high school fishing program that allows students to captain their own watercraft, it’s also the only high school fishing series in the U.S.! Fishing from any form of human or electrically powered watercraft (kayaks, canoes, peddle boats, bass busters, jon boats, row boats, etc), high school fishing teams are placed into chapters and regions and compete against other schools in their chapter/region in two fall and two spring “on the water” tournaments. Students also compete in 12 monthly “online” tournaments (each has a different target fish every month; students may fish online tournaments from powerboats as well).
Points are accumulated throughout the school year with the top 25-30 points earners (depending on region size) in each region qualifying to advance to the state championship tournament held each June on Lake Athens at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens, Texas. Students are awarded trophies, plaques, fishing/paddling equipment, boats, letter jackets (yes, you can now letter in fishing!), and most importantly, scholarships.
If you’re in Texas and would like to start a club team at your high school, follow this link, fill out the fields and hit send. As soon as we receive it we’ll start checking for other schools with club teams in your area, we’ll assign your school to a chapter (if available), and then send you information on how to build your club. Generally, the process takes about 3 weeks from the time the request is made until the first club/team membership meeting is held.
The HIGH SCHOOL FISHING SERIES is now expanding to other states as well! If you live in a state other than Texas and would like to start the program at your school, please follow this link , send us your information, and we’ll let you know the next steps to take to get your team up and running. Please remember though, we’re more than just a single tournament……we’re a 12 month program that is on the water at least 9 months out of the year!
